Having a rooster is always seen as a bad thing, but why is that? Let's learn about why we keep roosters and why you may not want one.
Great Protectors
Roosters protect their flock and can defend their hens from predators. Having one or two in your flock could save your ladies lives!

Flock Reproduction
Roosters are necessary if you plan on hatching your own eggs to raise chicks. Should you choose to do this its bet to keep your bred hens separate from your non bred hens unless you'd enjoy eating fertilized eggs.
Maintain Flock Dynamics
Roosters can regulate the dynamic of the flock including pecking order, teaching chicks how to behave and overall keeping the peace between everyone.

Personality & Diversity
Roosters are friendly, quirky creatures and can add more personality to your flock. As well as diversity since visually roosters have beautiful tailfeathers so each breed is very different when it comes to roosters.
Noisy Alarm Clocks
A reason a lot of towns have a rule "no roosters" because they can be quite noisy and it can be upsetting to suburban neighbors. But some find the natural alarm clock a benefit!
